Maniac Cop Arrested at Cannes

The law is about to become a whole lot deadlier. Variety is reporting that Vendian Entertainment has partnered with Wild Bunch and Nicolas Winding Refn’s Space Rocket on a multi-year first look deal. The horror thriller Maniac Cop will be the first project produced and financed.

The deal was announced Monday at the Cannes Film Festival with Wild Bunch repping international rights. The partnership will have a first option to provide financing for Space Rocket’s feature films for an international audience by Refn and other directors.

Maniac Cop, the first in a trilogy, is written by Ed Brubaker (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) and directed by John Hyams (Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning). It follows innocent people who are brutally murdered on the streets of Los Angeles by a uniformed police officer. As the death toll rises and LAPD attempts a cover-up, one determined female cop sets out to reveal the truth.

Refn and William Lustig (Vigilante) will be creative producers, and Lene Borglum will produce. The film will be co-financed by Bold Films and will shoot in Los Angeles this summer.

The movie is based, in part, on Lustig’s 1988 pic of the same name starring Bruce Campbell.

I’m extremely excited and honored to be working with such innovative and creative partners as Vendian and Wild Bunch,” Winding Refn said.

Vendian Entertainment, Wild Bunch, and Refn previously partnered on The Neon Demon, a film Refn directed from his own script with Elle Fanning starring. It was produced by Lene Borglum through Space Rocket and will premiere in competition this week at Cannes.

Ket tells Kim about the highly requested and truly terrifying Smile 2. This left Ketryn truly shooketh and gave The Substance a run for its money in grotesque-ness. It was simply a smorgasbord of gore and the first time in podcast history that Ket is the one who can’t quite say a word. Stay tuned for part 2 to find out what type of pants Kim needs for this one.Writer/Dir.
