Gears of War Film — Delayed or Curbstomped?
Well here we are again, kids. The highly rumored live action adaptation of one of the most successful video game franchises in history is now becoming the Ross Perot “It’s on. It’s off. It’s on again” of the movie world. Getting the Gears of War film off the ground has been troubled from the start, and rumors of development, budgetary, and story problems are not helping.
According to the LA Times’ 24 Frames blog, it now looks like the New Line film may have to go on without director Len Wiseman (Underworld, Live Free or Die Hard), who has decided to instead helm apocalyptic thriller Nocturne, which he had been in talks for, now made official by Fox.
New Line has also cut the estimated $100 million dollar budget, which has writers now changing the Gears of War legend from a sweeping epic like Lord of The Rings to a straight-up invasion Independence Day or Starship Troopers film … boo. Producers are apparently looking for a new writer, but SURPRISE, they haven’t found one yet who wants the job.
Maybe this is just one of those times where a game should stay a game. I will be MEGA PISSED if the studios fuck this up. Crix SMASH, fo’ real.
