The CW Schedule Shakeup: Supernatural on the Move; iZombie, The Originals, and Riverdale Held for Midseason; First Look at Frequency
The CW Network presented its 2016-17 schedule to advertisers, affiliates, and national media at New York City Center today; and take note if you’re a fan of their shows because you’ll be needing to reprogram your DVR’s… and waiting a while for some of your favorites.
The CW will launch its 2016-17 broadcast season in October, with premiere dates to be announced later.
The network also announced that starting this fall, The CW app will be available to more than 80 million devices on mobile, tablet, and all major OTT platforms, making it even easier to stream The CW’s primetime series for free and without need for authentication.
Here are the horror highlights, plus the trailer and a first-look video for “Frequency” in case you’re curious about it:
On Wednesdays “Arrow” (8-9pm) will be followed by new series “Frequency” (9-10pm); on Thursdays “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” (8-9pm) will now be paired with “Supernatural” (9-10pm); and on Fridays “The Vampire Diaries” (8-9pm) will no longer be paired with “The Originals,” instead being followed by “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.”
New series “Riverdale” joins “iZombie,” “The Originals,” and “The 100” on The CW’s midseason roster.
If you’re wondering about “Containment,” although it was our understanding that it was always intended to be a “limited series,” it has been officially cancelled.
As for the absence of “The Originals” on the fall schedule, per TVLine, network president Mark Pedowitz said of his decision to hold the show until midseason: “We have a very strong schedule. We still believe quite a bit in ‘The Originals,’ [but] we only have 10 hours, so we made a choice to [hold it] to further boost our schedule at midseason.”
He also shot down speculation that the upcoming eighth season of “The Vampire Diaries” would be its last. “No decision has been made one way or the other,” he insisted, before adding, “My dream is it isn’t [the final season].”
Check back soon for the official premiere dates.
