George A. Romero’s Day of the Dead was already remade by Steve Miner back in 2008, but it was such an epic fail that another remake is currently being developed. As we learned earlier this month, remake #2 sounds way different than the original, and today brings an update in the form of casting news.

Per Deadline, Johnathon Schaech (Quarantine, Laid to Rest) will star in Hector Hernandez Vicens’ (The Corpse of Anna Fritz) remake of the 1985 zombie classic. The actor will play a half-human/half-zombie character named Max.

The post-apocalyptic tale follows a former medical student tormented by a dark figure from her past, who happens to be a half-human, half-zombie hell-bent on destroying her.

Written by Jeffrey Reddick, the remake comes courtesy of Millennium Films and Campbell Grobman Films. Avi Lerner, Boaz Davidson, and James Dudelson are producers.
