Nicole Kidman Adapting Off-Broadway Vampire Play Cuddles
Penned by award-winning playwright Joseph Wilde, the off-Broadway play Cuddles began its run over in London in 2013, and was subsequently brought to New York just last year. Favorably compared to Let the Right One In, the acclaimed play caught the eye of Nicole Kidman, and she’s turning it into a feature film.
Per Deadline, Kidman’s production banner Blossom Films has optioned the film rights to Cuddles, which Joseph Wilde himself will adapt for the screen. Kidman will produce with Blossom partner Per Saari.
“Joe’s voice is so beautifully subversive,” Kidman said. “He’s exactly the kind of young writer Blossom is looking to support.”
The vampire thriller examines the strange and disturbing forms love can take and asks how you live with a monster that is your own flesh and blood.
New York Times called the play a “sensational little shocker.”
