The Toronto After Dark Film Festival is one of the world’s leading showcases of cutting-edge cinema, as evidenced by its staying power. This year’s event – their 11th! – is taking place October 13-21, and TAD’s Annual Call for Entries is now open. If you want to be among the early entries, you’ll need to act soon, but if you’re the procrastinating type, you still have a bit more time left…

We pride ourselves on discovering and promoting all forms of international and independent thrilling genre cinema including short and feature films in the genres of Horror, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Action, Animation, Crime, Thriller, Suspense, Cult, Bizarre, Genre-defying, Dark Comedy, Experimental, Music Video, and Documentary.
A TERRIFIC AUDIENCE AWAITS YOUR FILM!
This year Toronto After Dark runs for nine nights, October 13-21, 2016, and will screen almost 50 films, including both shorts and features, at ScotiaBank Theatre, 259 Richmond Street West. Our Festival is uniquely run by film fans for film fans and enjoys incredible loyalty and support from the large film-appreciating community in Toronto. Last year, Toronto After Dark was attended by over 11,000 enthusiastic genre film fans and over 150 members of the film press and industry. Filmmakers were delighted in the fantastic response that included a record number of attendees, overwhelmingly positive reviews, and distribution deals!
GENRE ELIGIBILITY
Toronto After Dark Film Festival seeks independent feature-length and short films from around the world in any of the following main genre groups:
- Horror, Supernatural
- Sci-Fi, Fantasy
- Animation
- Crime, Action, Thriller, Suspense
- Dark Comedy
- Cult, Bizarre, Genre-defying, Experimental
- Documentaries with a genre-related or cult/bizarre subject matter
- Music Videos with a genre-related or cult/bizarre aesthetic
SHORT FILM ELIGIBILITY
- Completed after January 1, 2014
- Completed Films, Works-in-Progress, and Rough Cuts all acceptable for submission
Run time of between 1 and 29 minutes - Not previously submitted to the festival
- Films in a language other than English must be subtitled in English
FEATURE FILM ELIGIBILITY
- Completed after January 1, 2014
- Completed Films, Works-in-Progress, and Rough Cuts all acceptable for submission
- Run time of 60 minutes or longer
- Screening at the festival would be the film’s theatrical Toronto Premiere (only applies to feature films)
- Should not be available for public viewing in Canada prior to September 2016 on any of these platforms:
- TV/broadcast/cable/satellite, Home Video/DVD/Blu-ray, Video On Demand/Subscription Streaming
- Service or any other viewable platform in Canada or Ontario (only applies to feature films).
- Not previously submitted to the festival
- Films in a language other than English must be subtitled in English
Note: Toronto After Dark only accepts online screeners (no mail-in discs) submitted via these film festival submission platforms: Film Freeway and Withoutabox (WAB).
2016 FILM ENTRY DEADLINES (11.59 PM PT ON EACH DATE)
- EARLY: JUNE 17
- REGULAR: JUNE 30
- LATE: JULY 15
- FINAL: JULY 29
