The Burning Man Caught in the Triangle

Ah, the Burning Man festival. Such a treasure trove of delightful chaos. Such a perfect setting for a horror film… and a found footage one at that!

From the Press Release:
In the summer of 2012, a group of four filmmakers received a cryptic postcard from their friend, Nathaniel, who had been AWOL for more than three years following a trip to Burning Man. Despite the misgivings of one of the filmmakers, the group heads to Montana to answer Nathaniel’s plea for help. With cameras rolling, the filmmakers set off to capture life inside what is either a harmless commune or something much more sinister.

So began independent feature film project THE TRIANGLE, a docu-style mystery thriller produced by Firework Brain and recently acquired for North American distribution by 108 Media. A fascinating experiment in method filmmaking, the film is a clever play on the found footage genre that rides an enigmatic line between reality and drama. Once inside the community, the filmmakers document the inner workings of the group while earning the trust of members who resent their presence. Amidst the details of the group’s simple lives in isolation, the filmmakers learn of an inexplicable bond shared by members of the group, witnessing a mysterious event that otherwise might have gone completely unnoticed.

The filmmaking team includes Adam Stilwell, Adam Pitman, David Blair, Andrew Rizzo, and Nathaniel Peterson, a cohort that originally formed at the University of Montana. The group has collaborated on several projects including feature film THE SIGHTING. John Cassavettes, Orson Welles’ WAR OF THE WORLDS, and THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT inspired the group’s most recent foray, the furtive experience in Central Montana filming THE TRIANGLE.

“It turned out to be a beautiful place with a bunch of beautiful people trying to do something unique,” said Stilwell in an interview in Los Angeles this year. “That is everything you want in a documentary so we interviewed them and we filmed them and became part of their lifestyle… and almost exactly when that happened, we found out there was more to the story. They showed us some things, and then they were gone.” The resulting film captures events just to the left of reality, leaving the audience to interpret the ambiguous paradox of Firework Brain’s final narrative.

THE TRIANGLE will premiere Monday, June 27th, at 9pm at the historic Cinefamily Theater, 611 N. Fairfax, Los Angeles 90036. The film will release on iTunes, Amazon, Xbox, and Vudu on Tuesday, June 28th.
