Rest in Peace: Anton Yelchin

Some incredibly sad news has arrived today as multiple sources are reporting that rising star Anton Yelchin has died at the all-too-young age of 27.  Yelchin, born March 11, 1989, in what is now St. Petersburg, Russia, was the victim of a freak automobile accident.

Per TMZ, Yelchin’s friends became alarmed because he was supposed to meet them hours earlier for a rehearsal. They went to his San Fernando Valley home at around 1 AM this morning (June 19th) and found him pinned between his car and a brick mailbox, which was attached to a security gate, with the vehicle’s engine still running. The police do not suspect foul play.

“Actor Anton Yelchin was killed in a fatal traffic collision early this morning,” his publicist Jennifer Allen confirmed. “His family requests you respect their privacy at this time.”

Most recently Yelchin was announced as one of the stars of Guillermo del Toro’s “Trollhunters” animated series for Netflix and previously graced the horror genre with roles in Green Room, Burying the Ex, Only Lovers Left Alive, and the 2011 Fright Night remake. He also appeared as Kyle Reese in Terminator Salvation and portrays Chekov in the rebooted Star Trek film series.

Our deepest condolences to Yelchin’s family members and friends.  He has been taken from us far too soon but even at such a young age has left quite an impressive body of work that will live on for many years to come.  Rest in peace.
