Mortal Kombat Creator Ed Boon Wants to Make a Horror Movie Fighting Game

Could Mortal Kombat developer NetherRealm Studios make a fighting game consisting entirely of horror movie characters? Their creative director, Ed Boon, who also created Mortal Kombat and is currently directing Injustice 2, seems to think so.

During an interview with Game Informer, when asked whether he would like to make a game featuring the iconic movie characters who’ve appeared throughout the MK series, he had the following to say:

“Yes, yes! You know, as we’ve been accumulating them, that idea has been coming up more and more frequently. You brought it up, and a few other people have brought it up like, ‘Why don’t you do a horror movie fighting game?’ Maybe one day we’ll do it.”

So far, Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger, Leatherface, Predator, the Xenomorph, and God of War’s Kratos have appeared in the series, all with their own excessively gruesome fatalities. We’d certainly love to play a game focusing on horror icons such as these, with other character suggestions including Michael Myers, Pinhead, and even some old classics like Dracula.

If such a game ever does come to fruition, you’ll definitely hear about it on Dread Central.
