A Few More Clues About Dexter Season 5
As we already knew from the “Dexter” panel at Paleyfest 2010, Season 5 will pick up right where Season 4 ended, but now a few more details have come to light, including who’ll be assisting our favorite serial killer with child care. Proceed with caution, however, as there are some spoilers if you’re not caught up with the show.
According to this week’s Entertainment Weekly Dexter (Michael C. Hall) will initially turn to his sister Deb (Jennifer Carpenter) to help care for Rita’s two children and Harrison, the son they had together. “Dexter obviously doesn’t want to take the kids back to where their mother was murdered,” explains executive producer Sara Colleton, “so they all move into his old apartment with Deb. You’ve got two people who can barely microwave a cup of coffee taking care of three kids in cramped quarters.” Adds new showrunner Chip Johannessen, “Nobody quite knows what they’re doing so there’s a struggle to cope.”
Colleton continues, “The theme of the season is atonement. Dexter has to get in touch with things he never felt before: guilt, sorrow, self-forgiveness. There is blowback from his reckless behavior.”
In addition the authorities will, of course, be looking into Rita’s murder with Dex being prime suspect #1. After all, isn’t it usually the spouse?
So we have a lot to look forward to this September when “Dexter” returns to Showtime, including how awkward the whole Dexter/Deb living situation will be for an audience who knows the actors are married in life. Personally, I think it should be fascinating and can’t wait to see how it all plays out.
