Teenagers Sam and Mattie are best friends, and their infectious enthusiasm for filmmaking led to their debut feature being successfully funded on Kickstarter last year. The pals, who met at the Special Olympics when they were in grade school, set out to make the ultimate teen zombie movie, and they very well may have accomplished that goal.

The film, which is now known as Spring Break Zombie Massacre, raised nearly $70,000 on Kickstarter thanks to well over 1,000 backers, and today brings along with it the official trailer for the little movie that could. What’s the plot, you ask? The dead have risen from their graves, and only Sam and Mattie – equipped with bionic superpowers – can stop them!

“For the most part, they’re normal teenage dudes,” Sam and Mattie’s friend Jesse Suchmann noted on the Kickstarter campaign. “They like to skate and play video games and talk about girls and stuff, but the one thing they both LOVE is cinema. They love to go to the movies, talk about movies, brainstorm movie ideas, and act out their favorite scenes. Three years ago, they started brainstorming their own Teen Zombie Movie (a favorite genre). This was nothing out of the ordinary — they are constantly hatching zany schemes to launch their careers. But something about this zombie movie has stuck with them. For three years. Honestly, they won’t shut up about it.”

When can you see the payoff to their persistence? The flick will premiere in Providence, Rhode Island, on July 7.
