New Artwork and Exclusive Stills: Dead Cert
Now here’s a flick about vampires we can really get behind! That’s right, kids, you won’t be finding any sparkling teenage brooders in Steven Lawson’s UK vampire import Dead Cert, and we’ve got some new artwork and stills to prove it!
Starring Craig Fairbrass and Billy Murray, director Steve Lawson’s Dead Cert follows a gang of tough London gangsters who get more than they bargained for when a group of businessmen make an offer to buy their club, the Inferno. They turn out to be nothing less than vampires wanting their land back and turn viciously on the gangsters when their demands are not met.
“One of the things I strove to give this movie is a sense of history, of vampire lore,” says writer/producer Jonathan Sothcott. “In a lot of ways this is a super-modern version of Dracula, which is a pretty big undertaking given that it’s probably the greatest horror novel of all time. But I wanted our vampires to have a real sense of identity away from all this swooning-teens-in-peril nonsense that has overtaken the genre lately. I’d say our big influences were the Hammer horror movies and the 80s teen vampire movies such as Fright Night, Vamp, and The Lost Boys. Dead Cert is a film not short of homages.”
“Billy Murray, who plays lead vampire Dante Livienko, had quite a challenge ahead of him, following in the screen footsteps of Christopher Lee, Jack Palance, Louis Jourdan, and Frank Langella, but he MORE than pulled it off. His king vampire has the same dangerous stillness and nobility that Lee had, but his character quite enjoys being evil. Its an amazing performance, and I think Bill’s created one of the screen’s iconic vampires,” Sothcott continues.
“You can’t have a vampire film without beautiful girls, and I had two of the most stunning you’ve ever seen in Dead Cert – Jennifer Matter and Lisa McAllister. Jen did the Expose remake for me last year and was recently seen in Spanish/UK horror flick Paintball and is a truly haunting screen presence. People will be dreaming about her vampire warrior Tatiana after they see the film and not just in a bad way. Lisa is one of the fastest rising stars in the country, a truly brilliant, totally natural actress and one of my favourite people to work with. Both of the girls are part of the Black and Blue Films family.”
The film is due out sometime in 2010, though no firm plans have been announced yet. We’ll keep our ears to the ground.
