We were delighted when we learned that young actor Bill Skarsgard had been cast to play iconic clown Pennywise in the new adaptation of Stephen King’s It, and we couldn’t wait to see what he’d look like in the newly-designed makeup. Believe it or not, though filming only just began, we’ve already got our first official look!

It’s important that we do something fresh and original for this one,” the actor told the site, explaining the decision behind the new look. “It’s purposely not going toward that weird, greasy look.”

It’s such an extreme character,” he went on to say, describing the film’s villain. “Inhumane. It’s beyond even a sociopath because he’s not even human. He’s not even a clown. I’m playing just one of the beings It creates. It truly enjoys the shape of the clown Pennywise and enjoys the game and the hunt. What’s funny to this evil entity might not be funny to everyone else. But he thinks it’s funny.

Andy Muschietti (Mama) is directing the adaptation. Jaeden Lieberher, Finn Wolfhard, Nicholas Hamilton, Jack Dylan Grazer, Wyatt Oleff, Chosen Jacobs, and Jeremy Ray Taylor will play the kids Pennywise terrorizes.

Creature performer Javier Botet has signed on for an undisclosed role, but given the actor’s body of work, we cannot wait to see what he has cooked up! Owen Teague will play Patrick Hocksetter, part of a group of bullies who torment the Losers’ Club. He is a psychopath and keeps a refrigerator full of animals that he’s killed.

Dan Lin, Roy Lee, Seth Grahame-Smith, David Katzenberg, and Barbara Muschietti are producing.

The story follows a group of kids called the Losers’ Club who defeat a creature called It. Years later, the creature returns; and the former club members, now adults, have to band together again even though they have no memory of the first battle.
