Release Date and Full Specs for Kino Lorber’s The Pit Blu-ray
The Pit is horror movie as delightfully oddball as its title character.
Sammy Snyders stars as a solitary and, quite frankly, mentally disturbed 12-year–old named Jamie who discovers a pit in the woods containing prehistoric maneating troglodytes. Being a total whackjob who hears the voice of his teddy bear and a sexual pervert in the making, and since this was before the time when most kids of this ilk would just shoot-up a school, Jamie gets revenge on his bullies by luring them into the woods to serve as meat for his new pets.
Calling director Lew Lehman’s (his one and only directorial job) The Pit unique would be an understatement; it’s a film that switches from psychological thriller to monster movie horror to quirky comedy in sometimes jarring fashion. There’s a reason this 1981 Canadian production has developed a bit of a cult following over the years. Heck, I’m surprised nobody has tried remaking it.
Kino Lorber have dated The Pit for October 18th, just in time to make it into your Halloween night horror movie marathon.
The disc will feature a new 2K high-definition restoration; an interview with star Sammy Snyders, co-star Jeannie Elias, and screenwriter Ian A. Stuart; a trailer gallery; and an audio commentary by Paul Corupe of Canuxploitation.com and film historian Jason Pichonsky.
