Charlie Hunnam Not Returning for Pacific Rim 2
Filming will soon begin on the long-gestating sequel Pacific Rim 2, and we had been under the assumption that Charlie Hunnam would be reprising the role of Raleigh Becket. Though that was the original plan, things in Hollywood often don’t work out as planned, and Hunnam has just revealed that he’s off the project.
Speaking with Yahoo, the actor broke the news.
“There was one incarnation of this sequel that involved me heavily, but I was unavailable,” Hunnam told the outlet. “They have a very definite schedule that they have to film because of the, you know, politics and business surrounding filmmaking. Sometimes non-creative decisions will dictate how something unfolds. Which seems bass-ackwards.”
“I’m very excited about it,” he added. “I’m glad they’re making it. I think it’s gonna be great.”
Pacific Rim 2 is headed our way on February 23, 2018.
John Boyega and Scott Eastwood will star.
Steven S. DeKnight is directing the film, penned by Derek Connolly. Thomas Tull, Mary Parent, Jon Jashni, and del Toro will produce the action adventure film along with Boyega and Femi Oguns under their Upper Room Productions shingle. Cale Boyter is executive producer.
