Michael Keaton Hammers Nail into Beetlejuice 2 Coffin
Not all that long ago, it was reported that production was getting ready to begin on Beetlejuice 2, which seemed legit considering the fact that Tim Burton, Michael Keaton, and Winona Ryder have all recently expressed interest in the project. As it turned out, that rumor was untrue, and now the sequel may be officially dead.
Speaking with Variety, Michael Keaton seemed way less than optimistic.
When asked if he had any update on Beetlejuice 2 to provide, Keaton answered, “No. Zero. You always hear things, that this is happening, and people seem to know more about it than I do. It’s possible that ship has sailed.”
“The only way to do it is to do it right,” he went on to say, echoing recent sentiments expressed by Tim Burton. “So much of it was improvised and so much was beautifully handmade by the artist that is Tim Burton. If you can’t get close to that, you leave it alone. There are certain movies that are like Indian burial grounds. You never ride over them. Bad s— happens if you cross that. You don’t touch certain things. They are sacred.”
