So, it’s been about a year since anyone last spoke about a possible reboot of Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles. Of course that means it’s time for the subject to rear its head again. Only now it’s Anne herself doing the talking so odds are it’ll really happen … eventually.
The author took to her Facebook page, where the following chain of comments appeared:
Yes, there are definitely talks going on about a new Lestat film. But it’s too early for me to say for certain what will happen. As soon as I do have news, I’ll post it. I’ll give whatever information I can on whom to contact for actors and actresses interested in being in the film. Right now? We have hopes, dreams, interest, talks. That’s it.
There are talks going on with regard to the Witching Hour and the Mayfairs as well. We will eventually see a film or a TV series of high quality. But again, it’s too early to say what will happen. When I have firm info, when decisions have been made, when there is a producer, director, etc. I will post the news here.
Not being a producer or movie maker, I am powerless to “make” a movie based on my books, or a TV series. These things only happen when reputable and powerful producers license the rights. The original IWTV movie was made because of producer David Geffen and his vision and willingness to see it through.
I get the impression readers think I can control what happens with another Lestat movie or TV series. I can’t. For a TV series on HBO, the interest must come from HBO or from producers who work with HBO. I have excellent agents. We are in talks on several properties. But I myself remain a full time writer.
In the meantime, I’m going to keep dreaming of Matt Bomer (pictured below) playing Louis because it keeps me sane to dream about this.
After the abomination that was The Queen of the Damned film, the Lestat news I can take or leave. But the prospect of a real Mayfair witches saga — on HBO or Showtime especially? Now THAT is exciting!
