Alien vs. Ninja and Mutant Girls Squad Premiere This Weekend and Come to Blu-ray / DVD in Early 2011
Today FUNimation Entertainment announced a partnership with Nikkatsu Corporation, Japan’s oldest film studio. The agreement means that they will get the first look and option on titles premiering on its new genre film label, The Sushi Typhoon.
The Sushi Typhoon will be responsible for bringing Japanese cult cinema to world-wide audiences. Their release of Mutant Girls Squad (whose international premiere will be this weekend, July 3rd, at the Japan Society in N.Y.C.) will be presented by the directors responsible for Tokyo Gore Police, Robogeisha and Samurai Zombie.
Following the premiere, Mutant Girls Squad and Alien vs. Ninja will screen at film festivals around the world, including the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal, Quebec and the Neuchatel International Fantastic Film Festival in Switzerland. You will also find a Sushi Typhoon presence at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, where Dread Central will also be for all of your horror needs.
Fans in attendance at the SDCC will have the opportunity to meet Yoshihiro Nishimura, director of Mutant Girls Squad and Tokyo Gore Police, as well as a chance to meet the stars of Alien vs. Ninja and see Friday night screenings of both films.
So far the details on the DVD and Blu-ray releases are scant; we just know that they are slated for an early 2011 release. Reps from both sides make it very clear that there will be a ton of amazing stuff coming your way, and these releases are only the start.
