The House at the End of Time Rebuilt by New Line
Another remake is on its way as Variety is reporting that New Line Cinema has nabbed remake rights to The House at the End of Time.
The movie — the highest-grossing horror film in the history of Venezuela — fits nicely into New Line’s wheelhouse. The label has had a great deal of success making horror movies of late, including recent hits The Conjuring 2 ($317.7 million worldwide) and Lights Out ($85.7 million worldwide). The company has a long track record of working in the genre, dating back to its first brush with prominence after producing 1984’s A Nightmare on Elm Street.
The House at the End of Time is described as being similar in tone to The Conjuring and The Sixth Sense. It follows a mother who returns to the site of a crime that took place 30 years earlier and left her family shattered. There, she must come to grips with the supernatural aspects that led to the tragedy.
Alejandro Hidalgo, who wrote, directed, produced, and edited the original, will helm the remake. The original movie marked his feature film directing debut. Henry Gayden (Earth to Echo) is in talks to write the script. Chris Bender (A History of Violence) and Jake Weiner (Under the Silver Lake) will produce through their newly created company, Good Fear Film, alongside Andrés and Barbara Muschietti, who are currently working with New Line on an adaptation of Stephen King’s It. The producers of the original film, Épica Producción and Jinga Films, will also be involved.
