Filming Kicks Off on The Final Interview with The Knick’s Grainger Hines
Character actor Grainger Hines has one of those faces that you recognize instantly, which is no surprise given that his career has run the gamut from “Barnaby Jones” and “Fantasy Island” back in 1979 to “Emerald Point N.A.S.” in 1983 and Joe Dante’s Innerspace in 1987. More recently you might have caught him in “CSI: Miami” (2005), “True Blood” (2010), “Hell on Wheels” (2012-13), or “The Knick” (2014-15).
Now he’s joined the indie project The Final Interview, which just commenced shooting August 8th in and around Pittsburgh, PA. The film is directed by Fred Vogel. Diane Franklin (Better Off Dead), Bingo O’Malley (Out of the Furnace), and Damien Maruscak (Sella Turcica) co-star.
Hines plays Oliver Ross, an alcoholic newscaster desperate for ratings who secures an interview with a cunning, manipulative murderer on Death Row—on the night of the execution.
Vogel and his wife, Shelby, are producing alongside Ross Putman (whose First Girl I Loved most recently won the NEXT Audience Award at Sundance). Scott Swan wrote the screenplay based on characters created by Vogel, who began his career with the controversial horror film August Underground, often considered both a pioneer in the found footage sub-genre and one of the most disturbing films ever made. He’s since directed a half-dozen features including The Redsin Tower and Sella Turcica, all shot in and around his hometown of Pittsburgh.
“Grainger is an incredible talent and the perfect person to bring Oliver Ross to life,” said Vogel. “I’m looking forward to telling this dark tale and do something a bit different with The Final Interview, and I’m thrilled to be making the film with him in the lead.”
