RiffTrax Live Enters the Carnival of Souls this Halloween
With Tokyo and the mysterious American city of “New Kirk” still in ruins following Mothra’s rampage as the queen of all Kaijus was roasted by RiffTrax Live at theaters all across the country the other night, the “Mystery Science Theater 3000” alumni already have a destination set for their upcoming Halloween show — a mind-bending trip to a Carnival of Souls.
RiffTrax riffmasters Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett return to theaters for Halloween season when they take aim at the surreal 1963 cult horror favorite Carnival of Souls. In its first big screen presentation since a recent full-color restoration, Carnival of Souls as riffed by the RiffTrax crew promises to be weird, creepy, very silly, and the perfect Halloween treat.
This will actually be RiffTrax’s second crack at the organ music extravaganza that is one woman’s strange encounter with an abandoned carnival following a traumatic car accident. Expect news riffs and at least one short subject preceding the film to stagger your imagination.
A little disappointed they aren’t doing the dubious 1998 direct-to-video “Wes Craven Presents…” remake. I’d go so far as to say there’s a treasure trove of direct-to-video flicks from the Nineties screaming out for the RiffTrax treatment. What I’m saying is I want to see RiffTrax Live: King of the Kickboxers. It needs happen, Jackson!
Fathom Events presents RiffTrax Live: Carnival of Souls at a theater near you live Thursday, October 27, at 8:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. CT and tape-delayed to 7:00 p.m. MT/8:00 p.m. PT, with a special re-broadcast on Halloween night, Monday, October 31. Mark your calendars accordingly. Your very soul may depend upon it.
And if you missed RiffTrax Live: Mothra, it replays in theaters one more time this Tuesday night.
