San Diego Comic-Con 2010: Lost Boys: The Thirst – Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander Speak!
While making the press rounds during the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con, Dread Central had the opportunity to catch up with two of the genre’s most beloved vampire killers: Edgar and Allan Frog, otherwise known as Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander.
Feldman and Newlander were in San Diego to support their newest Lost Boys film, The Thirst, and sat down with Dread Central to discuss what fans can expect from this latest installment.
Feldman, who played a prominent role in 2008’s The Tribe, was quick to acknowledge that that last time we saw him taking on vampires, fans didn’t get same the fulfilling experience that most had gotten from Joel Shumacher’s 1987 original, but it’s hard to ever copy the magic of the film that launched him into the forefront of Hollywood.
“I can’t say that The Tribe was the sequel fans were necessarily looking for, but what I can say is that I think we’ve achieved something in The Thirst that we missed out on with the last film,” explained Feldman. “We’ve definitely given fans more this time. I always say this to fans: The sequels will never be the first Lost Boys so if what you’re looking for is a copy of the first one, then it’s not going to happen.”
Feldman, who announced The Thirst during the 2009 Chiller Eyegore Awards alongside Newlander, discussed how this third installment hearkens back to the heart of the original but still keeps a fresh and new spin on the mythology of the Lost Boys universe.
“What I can promise fans is what I said from the moment I signed on for the third film – that I wanted to deliver a movie that was better than The Tribe and do something that was closer to hitting the mark of the world that the Lost Boys live in. I believe we accomplished that goal. I like that the Frog Brothers go in a new direction but we still keep it within the context of the world established from the first,” Feldman.
Both Feldman and Newlander were on hand during the Lost Boys: The Thirst screening held during SDCC, which was shown to a capacity crowd of 1,200. Both actors were ecstatic at the overwhelming response given by the fans when the film finished to massive applause.
To hear more from both Feldman and Newlander, check out Dread Central’s video coverage below as we talk to the duo about how it felt reuniting for The Thirst and if we can expect more action from the Frog Brothers in the future.
Lost Boys: The Thirst heads to DVD and Blu-Ray October 12th.
