Marvel Unleashing its Monsters in January 2017

After teasing fans with an image displaying the letters “MU,” Marvel finally announced at the Diamond Retailer Summit event in Baltimore that they’re releasing a new series called Monsters Unleashed, which begins in January 2017.

Monsters Unleashed, as fans will remember, was the name of Marvel’s 1970s black and white comic series that featured stories about the monsters of the Marvel Universe, such as Man-Thing, Werewolf by Night, and their own version of Frankenstein’s Monster (we’re still waiting for those characters to show up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe… come on, Disney), in addition to some completely original horror tales.

It appears that the new series will be a revival of this classic horror comic with writer Cullen Bunn and artists Leinil Yu, Steve McNiven, Greg Land, and Adam Kubert on board.

We’ll bring you more as we learn it.

Episode 266: Opus Writer/Director Mark Anthony Green and Michael Jackson's Thriller (1983)
This week we were unbelievably excited to chat with writer and director Mark Anthony Green! We talk about his feature film debut Opus, working with musical icons The-Dream and Nile Rodgers, Ayo Edebiri's star power and the eccentricities (and graciousness) of John Malkovich. Mark Anthony shares a fantastic story of John on set and so much more before we dig a bit into his horror history and find out why Michael Jackson's Thriller music video scared him as a kid. A shorter episode this week, but easily one of our favorite conversations in a long while. Don't miss it. And go see Opus in theaters!Follow Mary Beth, Terry and the Podcast on Bluesky.
