Filmed on a shoestring budget, Lasiurus introduces a world to be further explored in a feature-length narrative, which will follow a young family dealing with the morbid secrets of an uncharted town. The short focuses on a single character, Julian, who, unsuspecting of his surroundings, stumbles upon a deserted market. The eerie atmosphere builds up to the reveal of the dark presence around him.
Marcus Alqueres, who wrote, produced, directed, and edited the short, is coming off a deal with Sony Pictures for his eerie The Flying Man — which, to this date, has garnered over 10 million views online.
On his film productions Marcus wears many hats to be able to produce everything on a micro budget, including complex visual effects, due to his experience in the post-production industry. His personal short films range from horror to sci-fi and are also used as proof of concepts to access audiences and potentially develop into bigger properties.
Marcus Alqueres is a Canadian/Brazilian filmmaker and commercial director who is also a former visual effects artists with credits on movies such as 300, Source Code, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and Tintin. He is best known for his critically acclaimed short film The Flying Man, which garnered over 10 million views and is currently being developed by Sony/Columbia Pictures as a feature film with Marcus attached to direct. In advertising Marcus directed campaigns for Samsung, Honda, Volkswagen, Pepsico, and Tetley, among others.
