TIFF 2016: Unidentified China-Based Company Acquires US Rights to Colossal
Colossal, directed by Nacho Vigalondo, is a film we’ve been interested in since we first heard about it; and now some US distro news has come out of the Toronto International Film Festival, where it had its World Premiere, although the details are shrouded in mystery for the time being.
Per Deadline, US rights to Colossal, which stars Anne Hathaway and Jason Sudeikis, were sold by CAA and Voltage to an unspecified China-based media company. Said unidentified company paid mid-seven figures for the film and is guaranteeing a significant 2017 theatrical release, which will be revealed in the next few weeks when it announces its investment in a new U.S. studio.

Synopsis:
Gloria (Hathaway) is an ordinary woman who, after losing her job and being kicked out of her apartment by her boyfriend, is forced to leave her life in New York and move back to her hometown. When news reports surface that a giant creature is destroying Seoul, South Korea, Gloria gradually comes to the realization that she is somehow connected to this far-off phenomenon. As events begin to spin out of control, Gloria must determine why her seemingly insignificant existence has such a colossal effect on the fate of the world.
