Here’s What John Carpenter Thinks of Rob Zombie and His Halloween Remake

One thing we love about John Carpenter is that he never holds back, so when you ask him a question, you’re damn sure going to get an honest reply. Back in 2011 he sat down for an hour-long discussion at the New York Film Academy, and during the chat he spewed some brutally honest thoughts about Rob Zombie.

We’re only now seeing the video, which somehow hadn’t popped up on the net until recently.

Naturally, one fan asked Carpenter about Rob Zombie’s Halloween during the discussion, and he made no secret of the fact that he’s not a Rob Zombie fan. He noted that Zombie once said during an interview that he was very cold when he approached him about the remake, which Carpenter says was a total lie.

He lied about me,” said the master of horror. “He said I was very cold to him when he told me he was going to make it. Nothing could be further from the truth. I said, ‘Make it your own movie, man. This is yours now. Don’t worry about me.’ I was incredibly supportive. Why that piece of shit lied, I don’t know.”

Yikes. So what does Carpenter think of Zombie’s remake?

I thought he took away the mystique of the story by explaining too much about [Michael Myers],” Carpenter told the film student. “I don’t care about that. He’s supposed to be a force of nature, he’s supposed to be almost supernatural. And he was too big. It wasn’t normal.”
