[REC] Sequels, [REC] Genesis and [REC] Apocalypse, Are Selling, Selling, Selling!
When we first saw [REC] a few years ago, we never pegged it for a film that could be franchised. The truly badass sequel [REC] 2 totally proved us wrong, and we have to say we’re more than ready for parts three and four. Apparently so are plenty of other places …
According to Variety Paco Plaza’s [REC] Genesis and Jaume Balaguero’s [REC] Apocalypse have been acquired by Le Pacte and Wild Side Films for French theatrical and DVD distribution. Does this mean a U.S. distro deal could quickly be in line? Scheduled for delivery in fall 2011 and fall 2012, respectively, Genesis and Apocalypse were greenlit by Filmax Entertainment, one of Spain’s leading production outfits, in May.
[REC] directors Paco Plaza and Jaume Balaguero will split directing responsibilities for the two films. Plaza will direct the first film, [REC] Genesis, which will return to the origin of the original infection that caused humans to turn into zombies. The film is expected to be delivered in the autumn of 2011.
[REC] Apocalypse will be directed by Balaguero and will end the [REC] saga with the pandemic spreading to unknown proportions. Plaza will assist on the project, which is expected to be delivered in the autumn of 2012.
