DVD and Blu-ray Releases: October 4, 2016
October is here, and with it comes four weeks worth of releases one would expect for this time of year – more than 100 releases to put things perfectly in perspective. This week brings us 28 of that total, and it’s pretty loaded.
One of my personal favorites this week is the Gremlins Blu-ray collection, which includes Pop! Vinyl characters of both Gizmo and Stripe. Don’t get me wrong – I’ve never been a collector of these. This isn’t out of disinterest; I just have cats who would find a way to destroy them.
The final season of “Penny Dreadful” will hit shelves this week along with “American Horror Story: Hotel.” Another honorable mention in the television category is 1990’s “It,” the small screen version of Stephen King’s classic novel. “It” comes on Blu-ray with a collectible shirt featuring an infamous visage of Tim Curry’s most evil persona.
Fans of The Purge get twice the thrills. Not only is the third movie in the series, Election Year, dropping this week, but a trilogy collection will be making the rounds this week.
It’s also a good week for fans of shark movies. There are three movies rounding out the week in the shark column, with the 4th Sharknado movie in the front running. Following it in a close second and third are Ice Sharks and Planet of the Sharks.
There are also some good classics in addition to some alright collections listed below, so be sure to check those out. As always, pleasant viewing.

Synopsis:
In the early 1970s, cult filmmaker Jess Franco inspired by the Hammer horror films being made in the UK revisited the iconic monsters of yesteryear, placing them in the castles and crypts of the Spanish countryside, and bracketing the thrills with scenes of frank eroticism. Daughter of Dracula was inspired by Sheridan LeFanu s Carmilla (which was also the source of Hammer s lesbian vampire trilogy), but as one might expect, Franco s version was unlike any treatment the story had yet received. When the nude body of a murdered woman washes onto the beach, a police inspector (Alberto Dalbés) and a reporter (Fernando Bilbao) focus their attention on the castle of Count Max Karlstein (composer Daniel White) and his niece (Britt Nichols, The Demons), a beautiful woman who appears to be wrestling with an ancestral curse.
