DVD and Blu-ray Releases: October 11, 2016
Welcome back, fellow fiends. I’ve found that there is always at least one week right before Halloween that has a ton of releases and I’m pretty sure this is that week. With 46 releases dropping, there are surprisingly only two discrepancies. The 1964 classic Witchcraft is slated to be released this week on Blu-ray, but its listing on Amazon looks bleak. Additionally, The Girl In The Photographs had a release on June 28th, but that release is now listing as currently unavailable. A different release will be hitting your stores this week, so be on the lookout.
While this week has a fairly good selection of classics, it would be wrong to launch into those without first mentioning “The Twilight Zone.” This week’s Television section is absolutely loaded with “Twilight Zone” selections. From individual seasons to the full series, collections and everything in between, you can get everything “Twilight Zone” on both DVD and Blu-ray this week.
In terms of other classics, we’ve got limited or collector’s editions of Carrie, The Thing and The Hills Have Eyes. Astro Zombies will be coming to us all the way from 1968. There’s also A Werewolf In The Amazon collection that brings with it three titles that have all reach classic status.
Some other fun contenders this week are the 2 disc special edition of 2002’s Dark Water on Blu-ray, new holiday art release covers for Krampus, the “Hannibal” complete series on both DVD and Blu-ray and a new pop art cover for Army Of Darkness. All of this and more when you read below. Pleasant viewing.

Based upon on a short story by Ring author Koji Suzuki, Dark Water follows Yoshimi, a single mother struggling to win sole custody of her only child, Ikuko. When they move into a new home within a dilapidated and long-forgotten apartment complex, Yoshimi begins to experience startling visions and unexplainable sounds, calling her mental well-being into question, and endangering not only her custody of Ikuko, but perhaps their lives as well.
Beautifully shot by the same cinematographer as Ring and Pulse, and featuring an especially unnerving sound design, Dark Water successfully merges spine-tingling tension with a family s heart-wrenching emotional struggle, creating one of the very finest and most unsettling contemporary Japanese horror films.
