If you’ve been having bad luck in your love-life, then spare a though for poor old Medusa. Anyone she looks at turns to stone, so it must be hell for her to keep up a solid relationship, so to speak.

The snake-haired monster will get another chance to shine in the arcade-style game Mausoleum of the Medusa (official website), which arrives on Halloween.

Mausoleum of the Medusa
‘Medusa’ is an atmospheric arcade-style arena game from New Hell Studios. As legendary hero Perseus, the players attempt to “appease the gods” by slaying the gorgon Medusa as quickly as possible. ‘Medusa’ allows players to set the gorgon’s total life count; this allows the community to compete for a variety of “high scores”. (Can you beat my 15-life best at 01:41:78??). On player death, resurrection occurs as a seamless graphic event, rather than restarting the level. ‘Medusa’ also features all-original pixel art, music, and sound design by local Boston talent. It runs on Windows, OSX, and Linux. Lastly, it’s free (not freemium!). This game is a passion project inspired by some of our favorite games and movies (think the original ‘Clash of the Titans’), and it was important to us that everyone can share in that passion.

History
When programmer and veteran gamer, Drew Katsikas told his best friend, artist Daniel Cullen, that he wanted to make a game, Dan went straight to work. He presented Drew a mockup for a top-down 2D game where Perseus must slay Medusa. 2 years later, after many sleepless weekends, Mausoleum of the Medusa is now fully realized and ready for veteran gamers to test their might!

Features
All original 2D, top down pixel art.
Punishing, old-school Zelda-like action. Prepare to die, alot!
A customizable arcade mode. Players can specify Medusa’s hitpoints and compete for fastest completion. Can you beat Drew’s 15-HP best at 01:41:78?

A poetic introduction written in Iambic Pentameter.
