Lionsgate Taps Tobias Lindholm to Direct The Good Nurse
Last we heard about the film adaptation of Charles Graeber’s book The Good Nurse, about a registered nurse turned serial killer, it seemed that Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan) was attached to direct it; but now, nearly two years later, things have changed a bit.
Per Deadline, Lionsgate has chosen Danish writer/director Tobias Lindholm (“Follow the Money”) to direct The Good Nurse as his English-language feature debut based on a script by Krysty Wilson-Cairns (“Penny Dreadful”). Aronofsky’s Protozoa is producing.
The book/film tells the true story of the pursuit and capture of Charlie Cullen, a nurse who is regarded as one of the most prolific serial killers in history. Called the “Angel of Death,” Cullen was a married father who was thought to be a responsible caretaker, but his secret compulsion to take life led to his implication in the deaths of as many as 300 patients over 16 years, spread across nine hospitals in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
He was caught by two former Newark homicide detectives who wouldn’t let go, aided by a nurse who worked alongside Cullen and risked her job and family’s safety to stop him. That female lead role has drawn the interest of several actresses so stay tuned for updates.
