Dead of Summer Dead at Freeform

We didn’t hear much from you guys while the first season of “Dead of Summer” was airing on Freeform, and apparently that silence was heard loud and clear by the network because they’ve opted not to renew the show.

Per THR, Freeform has canceled the anthology, which hailed from writers/executive producers Adam Horowitz, Edward Kitsis (“Once Upon a Time,” “Lost”), and Ian Goldberg (“Once Upon a Time,” “Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior”). The slasher drama took place in the late ’80s and followed counselors at a Midwestern summer camp.

The series’ cast included Elizabeth Mitchell (“Lost,” The Purge: Election Year) as Deborah “Deb” Carpenter, Elizabeth Lail (“Once Upon a Time”) as Amy Hughes, Zelda Williams (“Teen Wolf”) as Drew Reeves, Mark Indelicato (“Ugly Betty”) as Blair Ramos, Alberto Frezza (“Charlie’s Angels”) as Deputy Garrett Sykes, Eli Goree (“The 100”) as Joel Goodson, Ronen Rubinstein (“Orange Is the New Black”) as Alex Powell, Amber Coney (“Class”) as Carolina “Cricket” Diaz, and Paulina Singer (“Gotham”) as Jessie Tyler.

The straight-to-series drama debuted in June to poor reviews and 630,000 total viewers. The series wrapped its 10-episode run August 30th with only 410,000 total viewers. “Dead of Summer” did pretty well on the Disney-owned network’s digital platforms, but not well enough obviously! RIP!
