Host Goes Multi-Format In July
There is some good news for those of us who were unable to get The Host Limited Complete Edition DVD (review here) because of either the price or the sad fact that we lack a multi-region DVD player. DVDActive brings us the tidings of joy that Magnolia Home Entertainment is going to release not one, but four different Host DVDs in the US.
Hitting shelves on July 22nd will be a simple single-disc edition, a two-disc version, or your choice of Blu-ray and HD-DVD formats. Holy Hell! This is pretty unexpected for a foreign film, even a good one like The Host. Magnolia must have a lot of faith in its selling power to spread this film across so many formats including the two newest editions to the format wars.
“But what will the extra features be, Mr. Syxx?” Well, according to DVDActive “the single-disc will include a director audio commentary and deleted scenes. The two-disc edition will include that, along with a Making-of The Host featurette, a Designing the Creature featurette, storyboards, a Puppet Animatronix featurette, a Memories of the Sewer featurette, and a gag reel. Completing the package will be a Film Departments featurette, casting tapes, features on training the actors, and more.” It’s unclear at the moment what supplements the high-def releases will have, but as soon as we find out more, we’ll update.
In the meantime you can pre-order The Host two-disc set through EvilShop, but if that is not to your liking, try the single-disc version. For you early adaptors to the new high-def formats, you can pre-order the Blu-ray version here or the HD-DVD edition instead.
