Lionsgate to Thrill Social Media With XOXO
Social media has changed all the rules of our lifestyle and done so in a hurry. Including movies. Deadline is reporting that Lionsgate is moving forward again on the social-media thriller XOXO, signing “Greenleaf” co-showrunner Clement Virgo to rewrite and direct.
Darren Aronofsky and Groundswell Productions’ Michael London are attached to produce the film, which follows an up-and-comer executive with a real-life fiancée having an online affair.
The studio has been working to bring the film to the screen since 2011, when it acquired the script from Black Swan scribe Mark Heyman. Lionsgate previously tapped The Adjustment Bureau director George Nolfi to rewrite and direct, though that version of the film ultimately didn’t move forward.
Virgo serves as co-showrunner and a writer on the multi-generational family drama series “Greenleaf,” which airs on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN from Lionsgate TV. His previous credits include the BET miniseries “The Book of Negroes,” which he co-wrote and directed. Virgo has also directed episodes of “American Crime,” “The Wire,” and “The ‘L’ Word.”
No idea how Dread-worthy this one will be, but if there’s a need for us to cover it we will.
