Believe it or not, Dinorilla isn’t a Syfy movie. Instead it’s a Swedish/German/Mexican co-production, and you can learn more via the press release below.

From the Press Release:
Sweden’s Dino Publishing, Germany’s Uprise Pictures, and Timecode Media from Mexico have joined forces and are currently in pre-production on a big new ambitious film project. All three studios have one thing in common: their love of monster movies!

Enter DINORILLA, a-man-in-a-suit-giant-monster-movie to be produced by Jonas Wolcher (Root of Darkness, Cannibal Fog) and René Wiesner (ABC’s of Superheroes). The film will be directed by Ola Paulakoski (Hermit Monster Killer) and written by Jeff O’ Brien (Attack of the Giant Leeches, Famine). Featured in the cast so far are Johannes Söderqvist (Hermit Monster Killer) as the monster and Kim Sønderholm (Run, Reyes), Yan Birch (Death House, The People Under the Stairs), Malte Aronsson (Cannibal Fog), and Lars Lundgren (Artic Mission, License to Kill, Total Recall).

“We really did our homework and want to make a real kaijü film in here in Sweden. We knew from the beginning it would have to be all about craftsmanship from scriptwriting to handmaking the actual monster suit. The Godzilla films have withstood the test of time and still work today because of their amazingly crafted effects and character-driven stories. Nowadays people are getting tired of flawless CG animations of huge monsters and yearn for a return to the old school spfx spectacles of yesteryear. We are glad to announce there will be no digital monster fx in Dinorilla,” says producer Jonas Wolcher.

The story, based on an original idea from the minds of Ola Paulakoski and Richard Svensson, takes place in Sweden, where an oil leak in the murky depths off the coast of Gothenburg awakens a 300-foot creature from its prehistoric slumber. The beast, a half-ape/half-dinosaur hybrid, then begins an unrelenting rampage on a nearby city with an insatiable thirst for oil. A fireman, an oil company manager, and a team of highly trained oilriggers form the ragtag team that will become the city’s only hope. Can they prevent certain disaster?
