Rifftrax Releases Birdemic Director’s Previous Unreleased Clone Thriller Replica
I remember when Birdemic: Shock and Terror became a thing there were many skeptical naysayers out there convinced it was really just a struggling filmmakers attempt to make an intentionally bad movie and sell it as a modern day Plan 9 from Outer Space ala The Room.
Now the fine folks at Rifftrax have unearthed master of the romantic thriller James Nguyen’s previously never-before-seen sci-fi thriller Replica and from the looks of things no one will ever question Nguyen’s talents ever again.
Replica, the never-before-released film from the mind of James Nguyen (Birdemic: Shock and Terror, Julie and Jack), is here for the very first time!
In the near future, in the hallowed halls of clip art-adorned offices, technicians clone organs from stem cells using cool near-future technology. This is directly to the benefit of Joe, who has a shiny new kidney, which is good because he’s so aggressively average he makes Caspar Milquetoast look like Casper van Dien! He’s got two suits, a job in sales, a new girlfriend, a dead girlfriend, and another new girlfriend—or is it the same dead girlfriend? It’s all part of the fun!
Witness the jaw-dropping “action” that will have you saying “They couldn’t possibly show that car backing out again!”
Embrace the Birdemic-level charm of Replica!
Rifftrax have released the film “unriffed”, meaning there is no comedic commentary by Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy, or Bill Corbett running throughout the film. This is Nguyen’s flick the way it was meant to be seen even though it hasn’t been seen until now. Replica is available for stream or download for only $7.99, which, from the looks of things, is also how much the movie cost to produce.
According to Rifftrax’s webpage, a “riffed” version will be released on February 10th. Based on what I’ve seen in the clip they’ve provided I think I can hold out until then. Maybe longer.
