Shin Godzilla to Play at FrightFest Glasgow
I’m gonna tell you a sob story that will have you reaching for the tissues. As a kid, I fell in love with Godzilla after watching the 1998 American remake. Now, I know what you’re thinking. Yes, I was a kid, but I still love that film and will defend it relentlessly. Anyway, back to my story…
I desperately wanted to see the other films in the series, but they were denied to me because aside from secondhand VHS copies, they’re not available in the UK and they’re never shown on British television. I had to settle for watching the 1978 animated series instead.
To this day, aside from the two American movies, the only Godzilla movies to have received official DVD or Blu-ray releases in the UK are the original 1954 film and King Kong vs. Godzilla. That’s something that desperately needs to be remedied, but it’s a discussion for another day.
My main point is that Shin Godzilla will be playing at the Glasgow FrightFest on Friday 24th February, which is kind of a big deal as Godzilla films are so rarely available in the UK. And it had better get a home video release here too, dammit!
Other films being shown at the festival will include A Cure for Wellness, Patient Zero, The Warriors Gate, Fashionista, Hounds of Love, and Phantasm: Remastered. It lasts from 23rd-25th February, and if you’re thinking of going, you can get the full lineup here.
