Sony Pushes Goosebumps 2 Several Months
You know what? Now would usually be the time when we’d lament about yet another studio pushing yet another movie’s release date back, but after the latest Halloween news, ain’t nobody gonna break our stride!
Word has come that Sony Pictures has pushed Goosebumps 2, which was originally slated for release on January 26, 2018, all the way back to September 21, 2018. Hey, maybe it needed more time in the oven. As long as it’s as good as the original, we’re cool!
Director Rob Letterman and writer Darren Lemke are back, and Deborah Forte and Neal H. Moritz are returning as producers.
Goosebumps was a solid performer for the studio, generating $80 million domestically and another $77 million internationally on a budget of $58 million. The film also has performed well in home entertainment circles.
The movie was the climax of an 18-year journey to adapt the best-selling book series by R.L. Stine, which was first set up at Fox in 1998 before moving to Sony in 2008. One of the keys of cracking the adaptation included making Stine a character and tackling not just one story but populating the film with a host of his horror creations.
Jack Black portrayed Stine in Goosebumps, and the word is he’ll be back as well. Keep it locked here for more as it comes.
