Chilean Folk Tale About a Monstrous Creature Coming to Film from Patricio Valladares
Chilean director Patricio Valladares (Hidden in the Woods) is currently in talks with US and European co-producers to make a film centered on the Trülke wekufü, a legendary Mapuche creature, according to Screen Daily.
Based on an indigenous fable, the Trülke wekufü is a rather horrific sounding entity that the site describes as being made “…from the skin of several different animals and exhibiting tentacles where the head should be.” Furthermore, the creature stalks both animals and humans and supposedly sucks its prey dry, making me wonder if it falls under the umbrella of vampire mythology (concept art can be seen below).
Valladares plans on shooting the film a couple hundred miles south of Chile’s capital city of Santiago in the Bío Bío Region.
Valladares is also preparing his body horror film Embryo, which focuses on the effects of radiation fallout from Chernobyl. That film stars Natalie Burn, who appeared in Valladares’ previous film Downhill.
