It’s been nearly 22 years since David Fincher brought us Seven and 10 years (as of tomorrow) since his serial killer thriller Zodiac. To say that it would be a welcome sight for him to return to that subgenre is an understatement. Those films are brilliant pieces of work that dare to venture into the darkest places that humanity can offer.

While Netflix’s upcoming series “Mindhunters” doesn’t see Fincher in the director’s chair, it does see him act as an executive producer on a show that sounds right up his alley. Based on Mark Olshaker and John E. Douglas’s book Mind Hunter: Inside FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit, the drama thriller will focus on two FBI agents who are tasked with interviewing serial killers so as to solve ongoing cases.

Jonathan Groff will be playing Holden Ford while Holt McCallany will be Bill Tench. Both are members of the FBI’s Behavioral Sciences Unit. Anna Torv and Cotter Smith also star.

“Mindhunters” is also executively produced by Charlize Theron, Josh Donen, and Ceán Chaffin. It arrives on Netflix in October of this year.
