Good news for fans of “man in a suit” monster flicks! Lesson 1 Entertainment’s feature film The Raking, an ambitious indie take on the urban legend of “The Rake,” releases today on DVD/VOD via Maxim Media Marketing, and we’ve got the poster, trailer, and possible word of a sequel.

Directed by Bryan Brewer from a script he co-wrote with writer and producer Laura Heine, Brewer also produces and stars with cast member and producer Allie Rivera. Cree Kelly, Thatcher Robinson, Marisa Davila, and Marshal Hilton (The Bunnyman Massacre) round out the cast.

“We’ve been getting some really positive feedback and reviews [on the film],” Rivera told us of The Raking, which features creature design and practical effects by Eric Fox of “Face Off” fame. “People are really connecting with our characters; these kids are not just in the film to die some gruesome death, which is rare in the low-budget horror genre. I think too that the practical effects and live-actor creature are a welcome change that horror fans have been craving. It’s been really cool to have critics asking for sequels!”

As for the film’s premise… “A group of college students set out to debunk an urban legend in Joshua Tree, California, for their anthropology thesis, only to find that they’ve become part of the legend themselves.”

The Raking is now available via DVD and on VOD at Amazon, Vudu, FlixFling, Vimeo, Google Play, iTunes, Xbox, and Family Video (exclusive DVD rental).
