Hideaki Anno Confirmed to NOT Be Working on a Shin Godzilla Sequel
Yesterday we posted that Hideaki Anno announced another entry in the Godzilla franchise during a concert where music from Shin Godzilla and Neon Genesis Evangelion was played. During that event a message was shown onscreen that seemed to hint at a sequel to Shin Godzilla.
However, it seems that the wording was confusing to many, and Anno’s animation studio Khara, Inc., felt the need to clarify the situation.
In a tweet, which you can see below, the company stated that the new Godzilla film that was being spoken of is the previously announced anime film that’s being made by Toho Animation and Polygon Pictures. They also make note of the Hollywood version, referring to the upcoming Michael Dougherty-directed sequel to the 2014 film. To really drive the point home, they specifically state that Anno is not working on a Shin Godzilla sequel.
Still, it’s only a matter of time before another Japanese Godzilla film is announced. Shin Godzilla was a box office sensation and won prestigious awards, meaning a sequel is inevitable.
