Paladin and Electric Entertainment have announced that they have acquired the psychological thriller The Drowning, which is based on the book by Pat Barker. The film will first open on May 10th at the IFC Center in NYC with a national theater rollout to follow. It will then hit iTunes on June 1st.

President and CEO of Paladin Mark Urman explains, “The Drowning is a truly unnerving thriller that forces us to face the shocking notion that the only explanation for inexplicable behavior is that evil actually exists.

Directed by Bette Gordon, The Drowning was adapted by Stephen Molton and Frank Pugliese. It stars Julia Stiles, Josh Charles, Avan Jogia, Tracie Thoms, and Leo Fitzpatrick.

Synopsis:
The Drowning is the story of a forensic psychologist who is haunted by his expert witness testimony that sent a young boy to prison for a chilling murder. When the boy later reappears in his life, he is drawn into a destructive, soul-searching reinvestigation of the case.
