Universal’s shared monster universe hasn’t even begun but they’re already locking down talent left and right to make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible. Case in point, it looks like the studio is in early talks with Bill Condon to be the mad scientist to take on Bride of Frankenstein, a reimagining of James Whale’s 1935 classic. According to Deadline, Condon has stated several times that this film is his favorite of the classic Universal monster movies.

Condon is currently riding a very successful box office film in the form of Beauty and the Beast, which recently broke $1 billion worldwide. He also has experience in the horror genre, having directed Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh, both entries of Twilight: Breaking Dawn, and Gods and Monsters, which focused on the last days of James Whale.

The UMCU (Universal Monster Cinematic Universe) will be starting with The Mummy, which opens June 9th. It’s directed by Alex Kurtzman and stars Tom Cruise, Russell Crowe, Annabelle Wallis, and Sofia Boutella in the titular role.
