Mark Steensland and Stephen Geoffreys to be Haunted by The Weeping Woman
One filmmaker we’ve had our eye on for a while is Mark Steensland. The man’s made some truly tremendous short films including the critically acclaimed The Ugly File, and now he’s back with a new short-form fright fest along with Evil Ed himself!

Award-winning director Mark Steensland has wrapped principal photography on his latest short film, “The Weeping Woman.”
Tony Award nominee Stephen Geoffreys (Fright Night, 976-Evil) stars in the film based on a short story by acclaimed British horror author Paul Kane (The Hellraiser Films and Their Legacy).
Shot in the empty, quiet woods of northwestern Pennsylvania, “The Weeping Woman” shows what can happen when you take a shortcut on a long drive home.
Steensland is no stranger to horror, having won first prize at two separate film festivals for his previous shorts, “The Ugly File” and “Peekers.” Steensland says this short is different because of Geoffreys.
“I was working on this film when I met Stephen at the 2010 Eerie Horror Film Festival,” Steensland said. “I knew immediately that he was perfect for this part.” Even though Geoffreys had never appeared in a short film before, he agreed after being impressed by the script and Steensland’s earlier efforts.
“Mark’s film packs into a few pages the whole life of my character,” Geoffreys said. “Besides, performing an 8-page script is ideal for an attention-span deficient like me.”
The film, which takes place almost entirely outdoors, was shot over two days in below-freezing weather.
“The original script from Paul Kane had the story taking place in the summer,” said Steensland. “I’ve always been a big fan of snowbound horror movies like The Shining and thought the change would add a real layer of creepiness to the film.”
Viewers will get a chance to see for themselves when Steensland takes the film on the festival circuit this spring.
