Dave Made a Maze Picked Up by Gravitas Ventures for North American Release
The surreal fantasy film Dave Made a Maze, which won the Audience Award for Best Narrative at Slamdance Film Festival, has been picked up by Gravitas Ventures for North American distribution, according to Variety. No release plans have been made yet, but we’ll be keeping a close eye on this one!
Dave Made a Maze stars Nick Thune, Meera Rohit Kumbhani, Kirsten Vangsness, Stephanie Allynne, James Urbaniak, Scott Krinsky, Adam Busch, John Hennigan, Kamilla Alnes, Frank Caeti, Tim Nordwind, and Scott Narver. Bill Watterson directs.
Watterson explains, “We wanted to re-imagine classic 80s adventure films with a comedic edge and a higher body count. To reignite that tactile sense of wonder triggered by those films, we played in the sandbox of old-school practical effects – puppetry, miniatures, stop-motion animation, and in-camera optical illusions.”
Synopsis:
Dave, an artist who has yet to complete anything significant in his career, builds a fort in his living room out of pure frustration, only to become trapped by the fantastical pitfalls, booby traps, and critters of his own creation. His girlfriend, Annie, leads a band of oddball explorers on a rescue mission — but they find themselves trapped in an ever-changing supernatural world, threatened by booby traps and pursued by a bloodthirsty Minotaur.
