UPDATED: Battle: Los Angeles’ Big Guns Prove Too Much for Red Riding Hood
The UPDATED final weekend box office tallies are now in, and Red Riding Hood is no doubt exclaiming to Battle: Los Angeles, “My, what big guns you have!” as the alien invasion shoot ’em up proved too much for the lovely young torn-between-two-lovers teen to handle.
Per Box Office Mojo Battle: Los Angeles (review here) (Sony/Columbia) took in $35,573,187 on 3,417 screens (coming in at #1) while Red Riding Hood (review here) (Warner Bros.) grossed only $14,005,335 on 3,030 (making it #3 for the weekend).
Meanwhile Beastly held on to the #6 spot with $5,021,232 (for a two-week total of $16,911,633); Black Swan continues to dance around the competition at #20 with $440,504 (for a whopping $105,928,217 total over 15 weeks); and, sadly, Drive Angry 3D dropped down to #23 with $304,262 (for a measly $10,308,051 in three weeks). Here’s hoping the Drive Angry team regain some momentum once the flick hits home video since it’s painfully obvious most people have reached the saturation point when it comes to higher priced 3D theatrical releases.
In any event, there are no real horror releases over the coming weeks (although Limitless on the 18th and Sucker Punch on the 25th both should have some appeal to genre fans), but that all changes in April with the likes of Insidious, Scream 4, Apollo 18, and Dylan Dog: Dead of Night. Keep it here for more as they battle it out for box office supremacy!
