Things have been quiet for about a year now in terms of any movement on the remake of The Craft. Last we heard producer Douglas Wick revealed that Leigh Janiak’s version of The Craft was actually going to be a decades-later sequel. Today The Tracking Board reports that Sony has conjured hot scribe Daniel Casey (10 Cloverfield Lane) to rewrite Leigh Janiak’s script.

Janiak was hired in May 2015 to direct an update of the 1996 supernatural thriller, as well as co-write the script with her Honeymoon partner Phil Graziadei. Casey’s hiring indicates that the studio is eager to get the film off the ground.

Andrew Fleming co-wrote and directed The Craft, which starred Robin Tunney as a teenage girl who befriends a group of budding witches played by Neve Campbell, Fairuza Balk and Rachel True. Meanwhile, Janiak reportedly impressed Sony execs with her take on the remake as a story of female empowerment.
