New Preacher Chatter: Shia LaBeouf, Chris Pine, Arseface, and More
The film adaptation of Preacher has long been talked about by Hollywood, but for whatever reasons it’s never gotten quite there. Maybe it’s the subject matter. Maybe it’s the scope of the story. Who knows? One thing is for sure … this is the closest we’ve come to seeing it happen.
Director D.J. Caruso (Disturbia, Eagle Eye) is now attached to direct this nasty tale of gods, devils, and doom cocks, and according to Clone Web he’s got some interesting casting choices in mind.
Apparently Caruso has been in touch with Star Trek, Carriers star Chris Pine for the lead role of “Jesse Custer” and, of all people, Shia LaBeouf to play the Nirvana-obsessed fan who tried going out like Kurt but missed and ended up having … well … an Arseface.
Mind you, these are just super early talks right now but still interesting nonetheless.
For those not quite playing along, Preacher tells the tale of down-and-out Texas preacher (Jesse Custer) possessed by Genesis, a supernatural entity conceived by the unnatural coupling of an angel and a demon. Given immense powers, the preacher teamed with an old girlfriend and a hard-drinking Irish vampire and set out on a journey across America to find God — who apparently had abandoned his duties in heaven — and hold him accountable for his negligence.
Check out some neat make-up effects below from Vincent J. Guastini (interview here) that shows off just what a live action Arseface may look like.
More on Preacher soon.
