The Silence Sounds Like Pitch Black Meets The Descent and I’m All About It

It’s being reported by Deadline that Stanley Tucci (The Hunger Games) has joined the cast of John Leonetti’s The Silence, a fantasy horror film that takes place in a world where giant bats become a considerable threat against the human race. Tucci joins the previously announced Kiernan Shipka.

The movie is based on the novel of the same name by Tim Lebbon (30 Days of Night, Berserk), and principal photography will begin this September.

Synopsis:
The Silence follows the terrifying tale of Ally, a deaf teenager, and her family, whose world is turned upside down by a deadly and primeval force. In the fields near her New Jersey home, a colony of bats are attacked by a parasitic insect and soon morph into a new lethal species called Vesps. As the blind, winged creatures quickly grow, spread, and attack the human population, Ally’s heightened senses become her strength. She can feel when the Vesps are close and realizes that even the slightest noise summons them in huge numbers.

She and her family seek refuge in the woods, where they must live in total silence. Amidst the creature chaos, they learn that humans can be just as dangerous when they are fighting to survive.

Now, read that synopsis and tell me that there aren’t elements of Pitch Black and The Descent in there! Personally, I love a good human-against-nature film, and the fact that this film features giant bats is a win in my book!
